Whether you’re a veteran gardener or just appreciate the scent of a fragrant herb, grow your knowledge and garden for a purpose as a Gardens at Gantz volunteer. The three-week volunteer class begins Thursday, Sept. 15 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Gantz Farmhouse, 2255 Home Road. Volunteers have supported the Gardens at Gantz Farm since 1991 through education, fundraising and charitable efforts in Grove City and nearby communities. This diverse group of men and women operate as an independent, non-profit organization. Volunteers encourage the interest in and use of herbs, assist with the development and historic preservation of the Gardens at Gantz Farm and have fun along the way. Gardens at Gantz Farm fall classes

The Gardens at Gantz Farm classes are a great way to introduce the entire family to the outdoors and all its wonders. Cook up or make surprises to enjoy on fall evenings.

Learn to make garden bread-and-butter pickles, refrigerator dill pickles and luscious herb-marinated olives. Cook up refrigerator pickles to take home, taste samples and bring home recipes. Prepare a topical salve for scrapes and other skin irritations in the St. John’s Wort Salve class from 7 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 20. Register for $7 ($8 for non-residents) using Activity #: 209378.05.

Youth, ages 5 to 12, can fashion a scarecrow out of terra cotta pots adorned with raffia hair and a straw hat to use as a fall table decoration or garden sculpture from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 28. Register for $10 ($12 for non-residents) using Activity #: 209278.01.

Did you grow great herbs all summer and are looking for ways to preserve their goodness now that fall has arrived? In the “Gifts for the Garden” class, use pesto, dry herb blends and rubs, soup bundles, tea bags and potpourris to create gifts for enjoy with family. Make an herb blend to take home with samples and a recipe booklet. Gardens at Gantz volunteer Mary Jane LaLonde leads the class from 7 to 8 p.m., Monday, Oct. 10.
