The inaugural Friday Night Grand Slam is 6 to 9 p.m., Friday, May 4; followed by Opening Day starting at 8:30 a.m., Saturday, May 5.
The Friday Night Grand Slam is a community festival with a baseball theme that honors the many members of the community who have contributed to the exceptional legacy of baseball in Grove City.
The evening kicks off with a parade of current players representing Buddy Ball and T-ball through Big League through Windsor Park from Field 11 (northeast corner) to the Wall of Fame where teams will be announced, receive pins and take a photo with Mayor Richard L. “Ike” Stage before proceeding to Barry Babbert Field. The mayor will then lead the assembled players in the recitation of the Little League® Pledge.
Following the pledge, members of the community who dedicated time and effort to local youth baseball players are honored as their names are unveiled on the Wall of Fame in the heart of Windsor Park. This year’s inductees include Joe Capehart, Michael Haines and Kenny Vaughn as well as Grove City Masonic Lodge Number 687. After the induction ceremony, players and visitors can enjoy a variety of sports skills competitions, bounce houses and entertainment including a DJ.
