The City Council of Grove City is composed of five elected members. The community is divided into four wards with one council member representing each ward. These ward council members serve four-year terms. The fifth member serves in an at-large capacity by representing the community as a whole and has a term of two years.
Once elected, the part-time council members elect a president for a two-year term. The president then assigns fellow members to committee chairs in the following areas: Public Safety, Public Service, Lands & Zoning, and Finance. This body also appoints a full-time clerk to administer the day-to-day operations of the office.
Among the duties of City Council are: to establish administrative departments, agencies, boards and commissions and define their duties; adopt the city budget and appropriate funds; and enact legislation.
Council meetings are regularly scheduled on the first and third Monday of each month. When a holiday falls on a Monday, meetings are generally moved to the next evening. View the next council meeting agenda by clicking here.
Sessions begin at 7 p.m. in the Caucus Room where Council is joined by the Mayor and members of the administration to discuss the evening's agenda and any other issues that may come to the table. At 8 p.m., Council reconvenes in the Council Chambers at City Hall where the regular meeting is held. Public attendance is invited and encouraged in both sessions.
